Jasonic's Favorites: Five Nights at Freddy's

Image
Hello, and good evening, Internet! Freddy may not be the main character of this movie, but the franchise is still one of my favorites and I wanted to do this in anticipation for the upcoming sequel! Released in 2023, Five Nights at Freddy's is the movie adaptation of the ever-popular, ever-memed, ever-theorized indie game franchise that took the world by storm a little over a decade ago in 2014. Many discovered this game through the various popular Let's Players on YouTube (Markiplier, jacksepticeye, PewDePie, and CoryxKenshin to name a few), and the game quickly developed an online following of devoted fans and theorists including MatPat of Game Theory -- not excluding cringe fan artists and fanfic writers. That aside, it was the game that brought its creator, Scott Cawthon, to fame and relevance and thus Warner Bros. quickly jumped at the chance to greenlight a movie adaptation in 2015. After a brief development hell where the project was passed from different companies...

Jasonic's Favorites: The Dark Knight

Hello, and good evening, Internet! The impact of this film is among the greatest a Batman film has ever had on the general public and I'm more than happy to return to it as a fully-fledged Batman fan alongside the rest of the trilogy! Released in 2008, The Dark Knight was and still is one of the quintessential Batman and superhero films that many love for various reasons you'd still hear about today. While Batman Begins has been semi-overlooked for being the less popular film of the trilogy, this film cemented both Batman and The Dark Knight Trilogy in the modern cultural eye at the time. According to Wikipedia, it was quite literally the highest grossing film of 2008, the fourth-highest grossing film to that time, and the highest-grossing superhero movie of that time. Critics and fans lauded it for just about everything it did right and differently in a good way, especially with Christopher Nolan's established methods of directing and storytelling; for example, rathe...

Jasonic's Favorites: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Hello, and good evening, Internet! Another year at Hogwarts for America (and Britain) and I finally get to continue the Harry Potter saga beyond the third film! Released in 2005 (20 years ago -- can you believe it?!), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the continuation and middle of the Harry Potter film saga -- the first major turning point in both the books and the films. Being part of the mega franchise that Harry Potter had become, it was one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, opening weekends at the time, maintaining a successful run in theaters and grossing records beaten only by The Dark Knight as well as the subsequent Harry Potter films. The film has maintained cultural status along with the rest of the franchise, becoming home to one of my favorite memes known as "Dumbledore asked calmly" -- better known in a lot of cases as "Did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?!" The movie has been a success among critics for being so good, but the fans...

Jasonic's Favorites: Avengers: Age of Ultron

Hello, and good evening, Internet! The success of The Avengers inevitably led to this one and, when it came out, it certainly continued my love for the MCU saga in a meaningful way! Released in 2015 (10 years ago -- can you believe it?!), Avengers: Age of Ultron was a highly anticipated sequel in both the MCU as a whole and to the highly successful pop culture phenomenon, The Avengers, that preceded it. With all the hype and buildup surrounding this second movie and the building up of the MCU over several years prior to it, everyone believed that Age of Ultron would take the MCU to new heights in more ways than one. Critical and box office reception at the time wasn't quite as high as the first film for a number of reasons, but the film still did favorably well and was exceptional in the eyes of many. This can probably be chalked up to a few factors including people's expectations for the movie, the inclusion of numerous returning and new characters filling the runtime, a...

Jasonic's Favorites: Kung Fu Panda 3

Image
Hello, and good evening, Internet! Kung Fu Panda 1-3 are a perfect trilogy in my mind and though I have yet to see the 4th one, I am thankful for this series now. Released in 2016, Kung Fu Panda 3 was the inevitable third installment in the Kung Fu Panda trilogy -- now quadrilogy as of last year. After the second one succeeded in the eyes of many kids and adults, expectations for were high for this one to do well, if not surpass its predecessors. Financially, it did great despite being the lowest-grossing film in the series according to Wikipedia. Critical responses were certainly close to the other movies and while fan and audience opinions may vary, there are plenty who believe this caps off the original trilogy of Kung Fu Panda pretty neatly. While I didn't get to see this movie immediately due to being deep in college studies when it came out, I eventually watched it due to a renewed interest in Kung Fu Panda in recent years and I see where some people are coming from as ...
