Jasonic's Favorites: Captain America: Civil War

Hello, and good evening, Internet! One of the most well-recieved Marvel movies despite the size of its cast, I still hold this movie in high regard because, by this point in the MCU timeline, I fully cared about all the characters. Released in 2016 (10 years ago, can you believe it?!), Captain America: Civil War serves as the third and final film of the Chris Evans Captain America movies and is a condensed adaptation of one of the most significant Marvel arcs of the 21st century. By this point, the MCU had grown so well that it was critically and financially well-received, perhaps one of the best of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever had at the time and since. Hardcores may have been disappointed that Disney didn't have all the rights to to include all the superheroes back then, but the casuals? Plenty of them were already invested in the franchise for this conflict to land and I already knew and met many fans who were picking sides with Team Captain America vs. Team Iron Man....

Jasonic's Favorites: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Hello, and good evening, Internet! Harry Potter remains one of my favorites and I continue to revisit the movies in our current climate of us fans getting a new show at HBO Max. Released in 2007, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the first of the Harry Potter films directed by David Yates and continues to prove the success of the Harry Potter film franchise beyond the first four movies. It was a great opening weekend -- one, if not THE biggest at the time -- and box office success, and critics generally enjoyed it. As an adaptation of the thickest book in the series, it, shockingly, clocks in as the single movie adaptation with the shortest runtime -- that is only if you count Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2 as a single project, in which case, Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the shortest on its own. In all my years of watching Harry Potter and engaging with the fans and watchers, people have either liked this movie the least or remembered it fondly, and I might be in the latter...

Jasonic's Favorites: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Hello, and good evening, Internet! Call it clickbait if you will, but this movie had some neat ideas going for it no matter how overcluttered it got -- I hear the Ultimate Edition is better too! Released in 2016 (10 years ago -- can you believe it?!), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was a sequel to 2013's Man of Steel and an attempt at propelling forward the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) into relevance well before James Gunn got involved in fixing the universe himself. At the time of release, however, it was one of the biggest opening weekends ever, but its mixed critical reception resulted in a sad dropoff in box office returns by the following week. With its universe only having done a single film with Man of Steel three years prior, DC apparently were clamoring to play keep up with the MCU, which had masterfully built up a compelling universe starting with Iron Man in 2008 followed by several successful solo films, two Avengers crossovers, and at least one or two unrelate...

Jasonic's Favorites: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Hello, and good evening, Internet! Call it clickbait if you will, but the title of this review is merely me continuing this blog in the proper format and I love the character of Spider-Man regardless of how his movies are received -- and this is no exception. Released in 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a somewhat anticipated sequel for us Spider-Man fans that came out of a reboot series that almost no one asked for. While I was one of many fans who had hope that this movie could succeed, critics have cited it as the least favorable of the Spider-Man movies as a whole, the financial numbers unfortunately reflecting this. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe thriving around this time while Spidey struggled to set up and maintain his own solo cinematic universe, a deal was eventually made between Disney and Sony to share the rights of the character so that yet ANOTHER new version could exist in the MCU starting with Captain America: Civil War in 2016. As ill-fated as The Amazing Sp...

Jasonic's Favorites: The Dark Knight Rises

Hello, and good evening, Internet! As of this post, I am now up to THIRTY reviews on this blog! With that, this is the end of the superhero series that was allowed to definitively end and I'll say it is awesome despite people's criticisms. Released in 2012, The Dark Knight Rises was the highly anticipated third installment of the ever-popular The Dark Knight Trilogy that continues to be well-regarded even today. Critics loved it and it was a financial grand slam, creating one of the most excellent trilogies of all time, up there with the original Star Wars trilogy, Back to the Future, The Lord of the Rings, and more! This was one of the most hyped movies of last decade alongside The Avengers the same year and for many it lived up to expectations, regarded often as a worthy followup to the already fantastic predecessor, The Dark Knight. Despite that, the film has been slammed with criticisms moreso than its predecessors, some saying it was the worst/weakest in the trilogy ...
