Jasonic's Favorites: Kung Fu Panda 2

Image
Hello, and good evening, Internet! Since reviewing my favorite characters' serieses is my thing, it was only fitting I would go back for another kung fu staring contest with this film -- a reference to the teaser trailer for those who don't know, or don't remember. Released in 2011, Kung Fu Panda 2 is just as it sounds being the second film in the Kung Fu Panda series -- now a quadrilogy as of this review's release. I was unfamiliar with the general public's reaction to a sequel being made though with the success of the first film and DreamWorks' track record up until then, I could imagine many were confident they could deliver while others were skeptical whether it would be great or not. Despite getting slightly lower critics scores on RottenTomatoes than the first film, surprisingly many hold this film in high regard, some saying it's the outright best in the series. As with my experience with the first film, my first time seeing this was with my sis...

Jasonic's Favorites: Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Hello and good evening, Internet! I reviewed the first movie a while ago so inevitably I had to review the sequel. Seeing as I still love Sonic and it was just Sonic's 33rd anniversary this week, I had to rewatch it and enjoy it as an activity for the anniversary week. Released in 2022, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the much-anticipated sequel to the unexpected hit that was the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Were it not for the studio behind the animated Sonic changing the design and delaying the first movie, it most likely would not have been successful, the sequel wouldn't have been made, and the film franchise wouldn't have panned out into what it is today. As a longtime fan of the Sonic series, seeing my favorite video game franchise become a hit film series is a dream come true and I am more than thankful it could come to this. As far as the Sonic 2 film, however, many have said that it's a significant improvement over the original while others have said otherwise...

Jasonic's Favorites: The Avengers

Hello, and good evening, Internet! Of all my reviews, I feel like this is the one that's most overdue. I once reviewed the first Captain America and Iron Man both on my old blog, "Jasonic Reviews Favorite Movies" -- the first Cap also on this one -- but never got around to this movie prior to me abandoning it. Now I might say my time as come to review my favorite, if not the BEST, MCU Phase 1 movie! Released in 2012, The Avengers was the first big superhero crossover movie that really committed to the idea of bringing several big and some lesser known superheroes together on one screen -- at least the ones that Marvel could have the rights to at the time. The hype surrounded this idea was huge since, at the time, almost nothing like a shared movie universe existed between various properties with films like X-Men and Spider-Man off in their own universes owned by 20th Century Fox and Sony respectively. Upon its release, box office and critical performance really demon...

Jasonic's Favorites: Spider-Man 2

Hello, and good evening, Internet! My prior blog also had a review of this movie along with the rest of the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy. Even if my thoughts on this movie have hardly changed, I still felt the need to update it to my current blog along with the current format I utilize. Released in 2004, Spider-Man 2 is unquestionably one of -- if not THE -- greatest superhero movie of all time and for many -- myself included -- it maintains that title to this day. Coming off the heels of its predecessor, Sam Raimi had a lot to live up to with this being a sequel to what was, at the time, the most successful superhero movie of all time. Of the Spider-Man movies he made, this has remained the most positive in terms of critical reception and while financially it was beaten by its successor, it was still one of the most successful superhero movies of its time and one of the most overall successful movies of 2004. Whereas Spider-Man 1 became the reason for superheroes po...

Jasonic's Favorites: Captain America: The First Avenger

Hello, and good evening, Internet! This is yet another movie I reviewed in my prior blog, "Jasonic Reviews Favorite Movies", but that was prior to Avengers: Endgame coming out. Now that Endgame has been out for five years and given more meaning/closure to Cap's story, I figured it was worth a revist -- Captain America is also one of my most favorite characters of all time, so it makes sense that I would bring him to this blog. Released in 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger brought the character of Captain America to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it was still forming after the success of films like the first two Iron Man films as well as the first Thor movie. Interestingly enough, this was not the first Captain America movie in existence; by this point in time, it had actually been years after the character starred in bad/mediocre films during the last century -- the last one being in about 1990. Fortunately, they never continued that version of Captain Ameri...

Jasonic's Favorites: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Hello and good evening, Internet! I had previously reviewed only one of the Harry Potter films on my last blog, "Jasonic Reviews Favorite Movies", however it was only the Prisoner of Azkaban since that is my favorite film in the franchise. Seeing as this blog is about reviewing favorite character films, I figured I would start from the beginning of the franchise this time and get a more critical look at this series that helped shape my life as a teen and, as an adult, my love for literature. Released in 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (or Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in Britain) started the film franchise soon after the success of the books starting in 1997 with the book of the same name. The books, after all, made J.K. Rowling a household name so it was only natural that a film company like Warner Bros. would want to capitalize on their success and purchase the film rights 2 years prior to the movie. While other astounded directors like S...

Jasonic's Favorites: Kung Fu Panda

Hello and good evening, Internet! All the movies I've reviewed on this blog up until now have been live action, but I did do several animated movies on my previous review blog, "Jasonic Reviews Favorite Movies". While this isn't necessarily a film titled after its main character like the others I have done on this blog, I do love this franchise now and believe it counts because the title is a term for the main character, Po -- the titular kung fu panda. That said, let's get into why I believe Kung Fu Panda is a great movie and franchise. Released in 2008, Kung Fu Panda was DreamWorks' first big success following what was thought to be the end of the Shrek franchise with Shrek the Third in 2007. While DreamWorks had a decent track record with the Shrek and Madagascar franchises with a few critical blunders here and there (i.e.: Shark Tale), most people were pleasantly surprised by Kung Fu Panda for managing to stand out on its own. As someone who was appr...
